Kinesiology The Scientific Study of Human Movement

Kinesiology is a multi-disciplinary science encompassing four primary areas of study: Anatomy, Biomechanics, Physiology and Psychomotor Behaviour. Kinesiologists use these sciences to study and evaluate human movement and functional motor performance. There are many university programs offering studies in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics or Honours Physical Education across North America.

Kinesiology provides a unique background, qualifying a kinesiologist to play an integral role in many aspects of clinical care, rehabilitation, wellness programs, and health education in the areas of sport, recreation, work and exercise. Many graduating kinesiologists pursue graduate degrees in medicine, chiropractic, occupational and physiotherapy, education and exercise sciences research.

McMASTER UNIVERSITY KINESIOLOGY PROGRAM

Dr. Thistle feels the four years spent at McMaster in the Kinesiology program were some of the best in his life where he developed long-term friendships and formed the foundation for his education in chiropractic. It was an intense four years exposing students to all aspects of human movement, while developing research and other academic skills. The faculty was high caliber, and very productive in all aspects of exercise research. Classmates from his graduating class moved on to medical school, chiropractic college (7 in all), teachers' college, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, grad school, and working in the field. Below is an excerpt from McMaster University's website to give you an overview of their program.

....At McMaster University, we are concerned with the whole human being and investigate movement from a number of perspectives - biologically, psychologically, socially, culturally and historically. This broad-based approach aims to develop the critical skills and creative abilities of the student to better understand human movement...
